I've always been interested in painting early America- for this one I combined people I photographed at re-enactments & changed the setting to night with a campfire as the light source. At Horseshoe Bend, infantry, militia, Cherokee, Choctaw and Lower Creeks fought against the Red Stick Creek Indians. Later Jackson turned his back on his Indian allies & had them deported to the western territories.

As a descendant of the Lower Creek chief William McIntosh aka "White Warrior" who fought alongside American troops under General Jackson, I am truly moved by this painting. There is a certain somber tone to it though, not a bad thing, in fact it's what makes it hauntingly beautiful.
